Self Portrait 22 Nov 2009

Since I am taking a portrait class this semester, I decided to take a few self portraits.

This is a self-portrait taken in my make=shift studio at the back of my office. I love my grey hair and my husband hates it! To me, it defines who I am and where I am in this stage of life.
My son's girlfriend, Rhonda Parker, french=braided my hair for me and helped me take the picture. Do you know how hard it is to take a picture of the back of your own head!
Thanks for helping me Rhonda!

Playing Dress-Up I

Ashley Parker

We had so much fun playing dress-up on Sunday afternoon. Rhonda did hair and make-up and we went through clothes and shoes.

Here are the pictures of Ashley. She did a great job! Thanks Ashley.

Mourning in Killeen Texas

Monday November 9, 2009
Ft. Hood, Killeen, Texas

It was a beatiful afternoon in Austin where I was working on a grant application. Deciding to take a break, I drove the back country roads of central Texas to Ft. Hood.

Posted are a few images of what I saw in and around Ft. Hood.

The flags represent the 30 wounded and the crosses represent the 13 massacred soldiers. If you notice, you will see one small cross. One of the women murdered was 3 months pregnant and a small cross was added for the unborn child.

The Killeen community is quiet and subdued. Everyone I came into contact with was polite but very sad.

Sunset at Lake Pat Mayse

Lamar County, Texas

For the past two evenings David and I have driven out to Pat Mayse to watch the sun set. The weather is so cool and the leaves are just beautirul.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our lives that we forget to enjoy the beauty in our own back yard.

Portrait of the Paris Fire Chief

Chief Ronnie Grooms

Chief Grooms generously took time out of his busy schedule to allow us take pictures of him in his dress blues during our photography class a couple of weeks ago. I tried for a split-face effect for his portraiture. I hope he might also allow me to take some pictures of him in natural lighting as well.

Portrait of local author

Skipper Steely

It was both fun and an honor to get to take pictures of local author, Skipper Steely. His lastest book, "Pearl Harbor Countdown" can be purchased at Amazon.com.

These pictures were taken at the PJC studio during photography class with Marvin Gorley. I am hoping that Skipper will also allow me to do some natural lighting pictures of him at my office.
