Showing you my Selfie!

The PHO 111 students have been challenged to create two self portraits this week as a class assignment.  Fair is fair and I decided to show them some different sides to how I view myself.

It is hard to take a good self portrait.  I think what makes it most difficult is having the courage to show others more than a pretty picture.  We all want others to find us attractive.  The assignment given was to create one picture of how you think others see you and to create one picture how you see yourself on the inside.  Remember a self portrait is not always about showing your face or your body.  You can have objects or troupes to stand in for you in order to truly express your feelings.

Another afternoon walk

We walked to Bywaters Park and sat in the sun and basked in the warm sunshine.  You know you are getting older when you enjoy just sitting on a park bench for a moment in the warmth of the sun.  Ahh....

 

 

 

Walk about with David

David and I have taken an afternoon break from reading, writing and rithmetic the last couple of days and walked about downtown.  It feels good to stretch my bones, feel the warm sun and the cool January breeze. We both take our phones and click pictures along the way stopping to look at this and that.  I show him mine but he doesn't show his.  I'd like to see how his pictures turn out differently than mine....

 

 

Frozen Fountain in Downtown Paris draws photographers

My son Stephen called from San Antonio to ask if I would take a picture of the frozen Culbertson Fountain in the downtown square of Paris, Texas.  Stephen said there were postings of the Paris fountain on Facebook.  So I went down to the square with my cell phone in hand and snapped some shots.  These are for you, Stephen!

 

A somber discussion

My husband David and I recently attended the funeral of a dear and talented man.  On the way home from the funeral we began discussing what image we would want used for our obituary, what we wanted included in our obituary, who would speak at our funeral, where we wanted to be buried, etc.  In short we discussed what none of us want to think about less long talk about. It was a somber talk.

When we got back we decided to take a portrait of one another while we still had on dress clothes.  Neither one of us dresses up very much anymore since we are no longer in the working world.  December 31st also happened to be our wedding anniversary. I took a portrait of David and he took the one of me.  I don't know if these will be the ones we will use when the time comes but at least we have a current picture of one another!

The Alone Tree

I connect with trees that stand alone. It seems forlorn but strong.  The long horizontal landscape with the wide sweeping sky reminds me of home, of West Texas.  I was taking the long way home and saw this scene from a distance.  It compelled me to stop and pull out my camera.  It isn't the best picture I have taken but it fills some hole in my heart.  I just like looking at it.

Driving home from Arlington I stopped along the way in spite of the cold wind and took a few images with my cell phone. The clouds were racing me home.  And yes, I took the long way home.
